Bitter Apple Reaction

Ozzie got a sore on his leg so the vet gave me some stuff to clean it and Ottomax to put on it. She told me to spray some bitter apple around the area to deter him from licking it. Well, when I spray the bitter apple, it obviously gets on the carpet and Ozzie has a hay-day w/it! He acts like my cat would when there was cat nip in the carpet, rolling around and diving on/in it. It is so funny to watch. Anyone else's dogs have this reaction to bitter apple or know why he would do that? It's hilarious.

Bitter Apple or Bitter Lime works with some dogs and others seem to like it as a condiment.

I knew a Rottie once that jumped up to get the bottle off of a window sill. He chewed the top off and drank the contents quite happily while his owner watched in amazement.

Daisy thought Bitter Apple was gravy on the table legs. Yum yum!

When bitter apple didn't work with my Great Dane puppy who was chewing the concrete fountain in the yard, someone suggested Tabasco sauce. He liked that even better--licked it all off and then went back to chewing.:(

I thought I was the only one that had dogs who liked the hot sauces...

Apparently putting rubbing alcohol on things that you don't want chewed on works. They put it in bitter apple, and the smell can be more detering than the taste.
