he peed on my leg at class last night!!!

at our obedience class, maverick REFUSES to go over the jumps and is downright scared of them. so i don't have to sit out during the "exercise", i don't make maverick go over the jump, i just jog past it when it's our turn. last night, the class had gone over them a couple of times (of course maverick freaked when we got close to the jumps, even though they had been set up the whole night) and i was standing in line talking to one of the other rottweiler owners. i felt something warm on my leg....it was maverick peeing on me!!! i couldn't believe it! it was almost like he was "mad" at me for making him go anywhere near those dastardly jumps...

has anyone ever experienced their dogs getting mad at them and doing something like that?? or was is just coincidence that he peed on me?

You can take that literally. Yes, he said in clear language "piss on you".......... take it for what it is worth.

I never worry about whether a dog is "mad" at me. I don't ask my dogs to do anything that is dangerous to them or that they are incapable of doing (well, Storm would contradict that when I made her go get some steers that had threatened to hook and stomp her, but they didn't and she brought them through). With that in mind, I expect them to get over it and get to work. I expect them to be more concerned about how I feel than the other way around. You are not asking him to walk on hot coals, you've been very nice in your requests.......... ask you instructor to put on her creative hat and also to observe whether he is just being stubborn. Whether he has some anxiety or not you are not asking him to do something unreasonable so that stubborness could be totally out of line.

oh, i'm not worried that he was mad at me... i just wasn't sure if dogs could get mad and have that kind of reaction. actually, i was rather pi**ed off at him because as i said, the jumps were up and in the same spot the whole night (matter of fact, they've been there in the same spot, for the last couple months). we go the whole night w/o him caring about them until it comes time to go over them. it's very frustrating.

I've always thought this was an ownership thing......since you were standing there talking to other owners and dogs, he was letting the other dogs know you were his!?!?

ownership dominance issue for sure mine has done it .... and on ocasion he has peed on a helper or 2 it is their way since it is near impossible for them to flip you off

If you let him know it emphatically enough, he will not repeat the offense.

PS,
I had a student whose male Husky would piss on her when he went behind her for the finish. We solved that. I stood where I could see and when he paused - I said "now" and she kicked her foot back and creamed him. He never repeated .....

yeah, i gave him a pretty good leash correction and yelled at him as we walked outside so he could finish his business. i'm pretty certain he got the point.

Keep in mind that you didn't need to take him out to finish his business. His business had nothing to do with needing to relieve himself and everything to do with marking you. I hope you trashed his a** right there on the spot.

oh, i didn't realize i didn't need to take him outside.. but he didn't pee when we did go so i guess that proves your point right there.

yeah, i let him have it.

he has never had dominance issues before so is it safe to assume he was testing the waters?

If he is old enough to mark, and had time to do his business, he definitely doesn’t need to go outside during class.

Also marking other thing during training is a bad habit, even you train outside. A training field is a training field and not a “potty ground”

(In my club you must pay beers, if your dog marks jumps, blinds etc. That really helps to keep the handlers aware :D )

I wouldn't say he's testing the waters. He already did that and found the temperature to his liking or he would not have progressed to pissing on you. You just missed the symptoms is all. Keep your eye out. This is not the time in his life to cut him any slack. Things will even out later if you do your ground work now.
