anyone else have a cat eating rottie and cats..or advice on?

Rescued rottie girl wants to EAT cats. And, I have 3 indoor cats. Any one else have a similar situation? I have heard from some other people on lists that have a rottie that eats cats..and also have cats..and they deal with it. This girl is sweet otherwise..loves people...but is an escape artist. Debating whether to keep her...Sofar not alot of luck in finding home...she can't got anywhere for awhile as she is nursing a litter. She also is bonding to me.

I have 2 mature cats and in december last year got a rottie pup, although they stay out of his way, i have introduced him to them.
I never allow him to chase after them if they come down stairs to go out of the cat flap.
Usually cats will stay clear, do yours have a safe place they can go to?
Zak my pup can't get up the stairs as i have a saftey gate on there, so the cats are secure there.
Usually, in my experience they find a common ground and tolerate each other.
It seems a real shame to have to re-home your dog due to this i hope u can sort this and that maybe some one else can recommend other ideas.....good luck

Both Rotties I brought in as adults (Daphne & Dutch) were not initially safe with the cat. Especially Dutch, who was very predatory - he's killed at least one possum, he's got a ferocious prey drive. Every time he saw Krazy (cat) he would go into intent stalking mode, and he went for him just once, and I'm certain he would have killed him. Daphne got scratched on the nose, now she's a bit cautious! All the dogs pretty much ignore the cat now, apart from sniffing his butt sometimes.

Now I feel both dogs are completely trustworthy - like Wendy says, it's important the cats have a safe place. What I did with Dutch was keep a 4' leash on him when he was around the house with me & the cat. The nanosecond I saw him start thinking about even looking at Krazy, he got a firm correction, and I redirected him with a little treat or petting once his attention was off the cat. After a while, he just stopped paying attention. Krazy is quite calm and will stand his ground, which helped, because running or jumping up made Dutch react with a lunge. It took 2-3 months before I felt I could trust him, he was never left near the cat without supervision.

Also, could she be a bit protective or reactive because of her pups? Maybe she'll calm down once her pups are gone...

My dog doesn't want to eat my cats, but she lunges and lurches at them when she is trying to play and it scares them. I have part of my house blocked off with a baby gate, that has a hole cut into the bottom that is big for the cats to slip through. One of my older cats never comes into the "dog" part of the house, but the younger one comes out when he feels like it and escapes when he's had enough. This solution works fine in my house. Also, as soon as we put the gate up we let let the dog know that jumping on it was a no-no, so we never had a problem with her trying to jump over the gate.

more..

I really believe she would literally eat my cats had she the chance...even a split second. When she is out..the cats have a whole room for themselves on the other side of a glass door. Roxie sits by the glass door most of the time..staring..if they rub up against the other side of the glass..she bites at the glass. If I have her in a crate out..and the cats rub against it she snaps at their tails..trying to grab/eat. IF she gets hair she eats it. When we walk her thru the "cat room" to go outside..she is on her hind legs to keep her from biting them. ALso..once I was in the cat room playing with the cats with a squeeky toy..ROxy was watching on the other side of the glass. WHen I came out..she jumped up and grabbed the toy...and chewed it for a second..before dropping it and ignoring it (she must have thought it was a cat). I can't do baby gates or anything remotely easy like that..as she can open a variety of different kinds of doors and would just knock these down or jump them I think. What I don't get..is..I have a sugarglider in a cage in the living room ...at first she was just as predatory toward him..but now IF for some reason he piques her interest we can tell her no and she leaves him alone. But the cats..she is obsessed with. I have had her 2 mo's...she just had her pups almost 2 wks ago. IF anything, after the pups for awhile when out she didn't even go to the cat door..to stare. She was only interested in going potty and going back to bathroom w/pups. Now, she wants OUT from pups that they are older..and is back to obsessing over the cats.

I would give your cats a "safe haven" where you're not walking thru it to go outside. Keeping them separated sounds like the only thing you can do. Luckily my dogs and cats think they are one in the same.
