When will she sleep THROUGH the night?

Venus is 4 months old now and sleeps for about 5or 6 hours per night . Bed by 10 up by 3 or so. I didn't mind so much when she was a wee little thing but shouldn't we getting a complete 8 hour sleep at this point??

What is her food and what schedule?

I find that picking it up around dinner time and letting the pup out around 11pm to clean out the pipes will help enable them to make it to 5:30 - 6:00am.

Your pup seems to be able to do the same - just need to adjust the schedule a bit.

And when she gets up, are you certain she needs to go or is she just lonely and whining? What do you do with her when she does get you up? Take her outside and then what?

1. Is she in a crate?
2. Have you tried to train her with a command like "good night"

When Katy was little I had the exact same post. (You could probably search it on the archives!) People gave me the advice that I should tell her quite firmly "good night" and she would go back to sleep. If she really has to go she will let you know, but chances are she is just tired of being alone....
If she isn't in a crate start training her with one. You will be so glad that you did. Katy loves her crate and that makes us very happy when we are trying to sleep in.

I'm so glad Xena never did any of that!

I crate trained her and made her crate a quiet place and when she goes in there, she gets a treat! She knows when it's bedtime. She will run over to her crate and sometimes it's hard to get her blanket settled in well before she goes in there, LOL.

We go to bed quite late, and she will sleep as long as I want her to in the morning. I guess I'm lucky! She's almost 4 months old.

All I can say is make sure your pup is getting enough good quality food during the day, and plenty of potty time before you go to bed at night. Also, if the puppy starts to whimper, do not just give in and get the puppy out, that way the puppy wins and is rewarded. If you believe your puppy needs to go potty, wait until she is quiet before you let her out. I can usually tell the difference between a "I need to potty" whimper and a "I'm bored and want some attention whimper." When Xena whimpered because she just wanted out, I would either tell her to settle or say AH AH in a growly voice. It worked for us! Xena did this for a few days after we got her and all I said was AH AH, and she usually settled unless she really needed to go potty.

Also, is your puppy sleeping in the same room as you?

I don't know if any of this will help in your case, but it has worked for us. The crate is a wonderful thing! :)

Good luck!

I agree with all of the above advice and just wanted to add to make sure that she is getting enough excercise during the day. That way she will be tuckered out at night and more likely to sleep all night! Good luck!:)

I'm with Birdie on this one! A tired pup was our cure when Emme was little - she hated her crate, always had to pee - or just wanted attention at 3:30 am , but sure enough, we readjusted her schedule - with her walk much later in the evening(about 8:30) and then some serious playtime (with lots of running!) and sure enough, she was usually zonked and began sleeping thru the night. Eventually you can move back to a more convenient routine...Good Luck!

Blaze is 5 months old today and will sleep from 9ish at night (when I just DROP) until about 6 or 7. This week I'm away on a training course with the dogs and she sleeps until I come out to walk her (the two dogs are sleeping in the crate in the car!:( ), which is about the same time.
At home I let her out at 6:30ish, she weewees and then back into the crate until breakfast anytime between 7 and 8.

Good luck,

Leader
