Help with my intact male

Hi,

Little background. Rolffe is still intact at 7 months because he is going to need dental surgery in the next couple of months (when I can afford it) and I would rather he only go under the knife once. So that is why he is still "all there".

My question is this; over the last couple of weeks he is doing some really stupid things and I am wondering if they are specific to him not being neutered.
Firstly, he is getting increasingly aggressive towards other dogs, not all dogs, but I really can't see a pattern either. He runs around them barking (he is not a talker) and then biting them on their necks.
Secondly, and this was the final straw for me. We ran into a dog at the park who he knows and likes. They said hello, then Rolffe lifted his leg and peed on the dog!
I couldn't believe it.

I am thinking like it or not he may be going in to be neutered next week if this is specifically due to not having him fixed. I do keep him very well socialized and work on training daily. He is due to take his next training course this fall.
Please advise... I am at a loss!

Thanks all,
Jill

my guess is that this behavior is in his gene's. my 11 month intact male has never shown aggression towards anything. he did mark his spot on something in the house the other day but he's never barked at another dog. once a loose dog ran up to us while walking and kept running around us, following us but he never barked or growled, just sniffed. if you say you train him and socialize him then my guess is his gene's. i don't think him being intact alone would cause this kind of behavior.-kevin

Thanks for the reply Kevin,

I think that I should restate my pups behavior. Since we got him at 3 months old he has not had ANY behavior issues. He is quick learning and VERY gentle. Honestly - you probably don't believe me.
This dog would not know how to hurt or be aggressive; if fact he is probably too far the other way. You walk up to him and he is on his back tummy in air. He is so mellow.

In puppy class he had no interest in the class, so like clock work, half way through class it was nap time and down he went - or tried to get into one of the kennels in the room.

This is a new change only in the last two week or so. And I should correct myself on my earlier statement, I don't know if it is aggressive behavior. He is in the play stance and dancing around the dogs. As I said before - this is not every dog, but I can't see a pattern either. It's not only females or males/ pups or older dogs.

I have a hard time believing that this is his genes. That would have been apparent already as he is almost eight months old.

I would love to hear German Vanegas' take on this. Are you out there? I love reading your posts!

Thanks
Jill

Peeing on people or dogs can be a show of dominance. Keep a colse eye on him and if he lifts his leg on anything other than a tree or the air, correct him, take him to a proper 'peeing' place, and praise him when he pee's where he is supposed to.

As for him running around the other dogs and barking and biting their necks - how do the other dogs respond? Sounds like he wants to play! My 8 month old foster boy does the same thing to try to get any one of the other five dogs here to play with him...sometimes to no avail unless someone is feeling playful.

Falling asleep in class means he's probably bored - make it FUN - talk to him like you've just sucked in the contents of a helium filled balloon - high pitched and happy voice keeps their interrest up and keeps 'em awake :D .

Good luck!
