Sucking on ears

Hello again...
My 7 month old male Rottie pup TRIES to sucks on ears if given the chance. My husband lets him do it once in a while despite that I tell him not to. He says its just affection, I wonder if it is because he was not weaned properly being that he was taken early from his parents? Has anyone had this problem? If so will he grow out of it?
Thanks again Lanna

I've known of kittens that were removed from their mothers too soon trying to suck on the nape of the neck or areas that seem like they might have a tit, but I've never heard of a dog doing this kind of thing. Seems strange to me. I don't think I'd like it at all no matter what I imagined the motivation to be.

I agree with Judi W.

It sounds like strange behaviour and I don't know why he's doing it, but I wouldn't let him do it at all. JMO, I don't think it's a good habit he should be learning.

Yeah, the idea of a great big dog climbing up and glomming onto your ear whether sucking or with teeth, just doesn't appeal to me. I'm afraid he'd get uncerimoniously dumped on his rear. Suggest you stop it with all as he is not going to get any smaller and it is pushy behavior - not socially acceptable.

There was no question in my mind that this is not a good thing. I agree with you totally about him climbing up on one to do this is not acceptable. However my husband seems to think that this is "cute" and undermines my NO by letting him do this along with other bad behaviors ( he likes to "big boy" play)which I also have told him is a no-no. Anyway this is not a bash hubby site (lol) although I am sure others have had the same problem with their family.
I too have heard of kittens doing this because of weaning problems but had never heard of it with dogs thats why I asked if others had seen this before.
Thanks again for the input I will have my husband read your posts, maybe this will help with my problem ;) .-Lanna
