How to introduce a new pup to a old dog?

I have a 12 months old male rott and he is ok with other dogs. I work in daytime, so I would like to get a new female pup for him. My new pup is 3 weeks old and I will go pick it up after 5 weeks.

So could anyone tell me is there are anything I have to watch out when I bring the new up home?
Should I let the pup be with the older one all the time or seperate them?

thanks

I would only let the pup and your other dog be together when you are there to supervise. Your male is still young enough that he's likely to be overexuberant with a pup and he may hurt her. Both of the dogs will definitely need separate time with you as well, without the other one around. Especially with the new puppy, if you don't spend lots of one-on-one time with her, you'll find she'll bond with the other dog and not with you.

Big Rotty, do you mean you will pick the pup up in five weeks time or when the pup is five weeks old?

I built a kennel out of a chain link kit from home depot. I kept my puppy inside it and my female outside. I did this for about 2 weeks. Then I would gradually let them both stay in the kennel together for a couple of hours. I gradually extended the time. Now they stay in the kennel together all the time with no problem.

My female is really nasty around other dogs, so if it can work for me, it can work with anyone.

My kennel is huge. I actually have a 6 foot space between a wall and my house in the back so I just blocked off 2 ends. So my kennel is 6' X40'

I mean that female pup is only 3 weeks old right now, so she won't be ready untill she turns 8 weeks old. ANd she is not for breeding purpose.

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure what you meant. I'm sure they'll enjoy each other if you're always careful to keep an eye on them during play and make sure the puppy gets all the attention she needs from you.
