robotnix - My post is about an adult (7 yrs) dog and she's been fine with my work hours for the past 5 years. When she was younger and more full of it I would take her on a good walk in the morning before I left and again in the afternoon when I returned. Now she prefers to sleep in a bit
and is satisfied with one walk a day. I do take her to work with me periodically and I never leave her for more than 9-10 hours.
When she was a puppy, I came home every 2 hours to let her out and extended those hours gradually as she was able to handle it. A young puppy can't handle the number of hours we're talking about here for quite a period of time, so if you decide to get a puppy, you'll need to be able to come home during the work day or have someone come in and care for him/her when you can't. :)
