Re: normal height range for male rotties??

Sadly... because you seem so excited about it. Like it's a good thing? It's not.

I have no doubt you love your boy. In fact, I'm happy he has a loving home. I would certainly love my still growing and oversized dog too, if I had one. I don't have one.

It's also to his advantage that he's a bit leggy and lean. But bigger isn't better, with our breed. There is a certain propensity towards hip dysplasia. Being larger/taller, especially if he was deliberately bred that way, (do you know if he was?) for some reason, tends to bring that aspect out a bit more.

So, yes... sadly, as I wish your dog to be one of the lucky ones who remains pain free and free of HD, arthritis, etc.

You see, one of my girls has some (currently) mild arthritis in one hip. It will get worse as she ages. My dog was bred to standard, thru OFA good sire and dam, with all the usual health clearances. She's the only one, not with HD but arthritis, that we know of anywhere along the line. Arthritis can be genetic, we don't know. I love her with every fiber of my being. Before the x-rays, we showed her. She was pointed. Once we knew, we had her spayed immediately and keep her on the lighter side.

She's going to be 7 soon. She is on medication to lube up the joints, of course. So far no limping, no signs. But they will come, whether I want or not. I hope you never have to face something like that with your dog....that's all.
