Katie, you might want to read my post about my dog's light sensitivity. As it turns out he has an allergy, we don' t really know if it's food or pollen or??? but he was diagnosed with uveitis which is a type of inflamation in the eyes. He didn't have any goop in his eyes but my understanding is goopy eyes are not uncommon with this. I'm certainly not qualified to tell you this is or isn't related, but it's something to keep in mind. I would spare you the fear and panic I went through (not to mention the added expense of an emergency after hours vet). You could talk with your vet about Benedryl and the correct dosage for your dog. Anyway it's just a thought.
