Long coats are typically very soft coated with nice bone :)
Wire coats are very coarse coated and have "beard like" coat on their chins etc.
Your dog is without a doubt a long coat which is a very common recessive in the breed. Other than being a disqualification in the conformation ring and making him unbreedable there is nothing a normal coated Rott can do that a long coat can't.
Get a good comb ( medium, coarse and fine tooth models) and groom him daily and love him to bits!!!
