Re: Feeding Raw: How to Know He's Eating the Raw Bone Correctly?

I did alot of reading before I switched to raw. I read that you should give your dog raw in pieces that're bigger than the dog's head. Well, since our foster has a large head that meant Sailor should've gotten pieces of raw the size of a soccer ball.

I ws timid--the first time I fed turkey necks I chopped them into thirds, concerned that our dogs who hoovered down their kibble w/o chewing would do the same with raw. To my surprise, they didn't--even our youngest dog who gobbled her kibble chews deliberately.

The only bones I watch for are rib bones. I pick these up when the meat is stipped. I do this more to prevent a scuffle breaking out if dog #1 should innocently walk by dog #2's bone.

I have seen our foster swallow pieces of beef that look to me to be too big to swallow, but swallow them he does and they stayed down.

I suggest giving your dog a whole chicken and let him have at it.
