I also supplement food with fish oil and have been giving glucosamine because my dog is showing signs of having painful joints. I would only give glucosamine if your dog is older and has arthritis or other joint problems, or a dog who works heavily and you need extra supplements to maintain the joints. The fish oil is a definite ok though for pretty much any dog to help maintain a shiny coat!
Hey Zumie. Just checking in on u and your pup. How is the limp? My guy just recently started getting the limp back and his trainer gave me a little sample of glucosamine to see if that helps. My question is, that I'm sure a pet store is going to charge an arm and a leg for it, so I was wondering if I could use the ones u can get at the grocery. The ingrediets differ somewhat though. I am only using the sample one for now to see how it works.

My guy never shows signs of pain, but u can see the limp. Even my neighbour noticed it, and he is not even a big fan of dogs. I've cut down the amount of food to only 2 cups to 2.5 cups a day in total, and the exercise.......well, we were recently up to the 30 minute walks, but I think i'll cut it back down to 20 tops....for the next little while.

So is it okay to give the grocery glucosamine, or do you think the formulation for pets is different? I noticed some ingredient in the grocery one.....cat's claw.....that's not in the list of ingredients i have in the sample one i got, and there was quite a large amount of it from what i remember in the grocery one.

Aside from that, the pup is doing well. we're 9.5 months old now, and still full of energy! My trainer still thinks it's hilarious when my pup gets the zooooooooomies! I do too, but he did it the other night when my friend was over, and she and froze herself on the couch, while my pup did laps around the living room......including the hop onto.... and off the couch.
