Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

Hello All,

We are back from our camping trip and I am trying to catch up. Unless I missed a post, It seems everyone is still doing well.

Jaxx had a great time camping. Hanging out by the fire, having grilled hot dogs at lunch, scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast and, sit down because I almost passed out....before we left Mark went to the butcher shop for steaks for our trip. When I unwrapped them there were 3 HUGE porterhouse steaks. Why I asked, did you get 3 steaks ? Mark's reply " one is for Jaxx" !!
Much to Jaxx's dismay he did not get his entire steak at once, but it did make taking his pills a much happier event.

Before the OS I would have been fussing about feeding him like that but now the trips to Stricklands for his vanilla cone with sprinkles come as often as possible.

The only thing that really pained me was the last night we had a beautiful fire and sat by it till almost 11:00. Jaxx was snoozing and waking often to keep an eye on the raccoons that try to raid camp sites. We got up to clean up and put things away I called him to come in the camper and he just sat by the fire not moving. I called him again and he would not come which is totally not Jaxx. I call and he moves like a freight train. I went over to move him along and had to coax repeatedly for him to come in. I finally gave up and just sat down on the ground to talk with him. I swear it was like he did not want to leave the fire because he somehow knew it would be his last one. Jaxx and I sat and talked about our life together and I cried and cried and then cried some more. I promised him I will be ready when he is. He has been such a great dog, with me through everything and I owe it to him to do the right thing for him.

He was very happy to be home and on his "real" sofa and spent hours snoozing and supervising my tasks from his sofa vantage point.

We see the Dr tomorrow morning for a re-check but it seems to me we are doing as well as can be expected keeping him comfy.

Keeping all of Jaxx's friends and humans in my thoughts and prayers.

Take care...Marley
