Re: has anyone heard of...

Fred Hasson is a complete jerk, who will laugh about having a dog in a crate with an e-collar on it, and a dog on field with an e-collar on. It was a 2-dog collar, and it was set to the wrong dog----he was "correcting" the dog in the crate, not the dog on the field. He laughs about it...thought it was funny that the dog was in the crate screaming.
His method of training is strictly "negative reinforcement", IE, when you do what I say, the "correction" goes away.
Some of the trainers who use this method will argue that they are only "tapping" the dog---much like a clicker, they say....the dog likes it, they say....

Well, here is the scoop on that....negative attention is often better than no attention at all. It sucks for the dog.

Fred Hasson has a video on you-tube where he shows his Mal with an e-collar around the neck and one around the belly, in front of the penis/sheath(not on the penis, but on the belly in front of it.)

He is correcting the dog for improper body position in the rear end(I think it was after a frisbee---I don't know, I couldn't watch it. Once I saw how the individual trained, I stopped watching anything he puts out, can't do it)

It would be so much less stressful on the dog to give the dog a reward, whether food or toy, to be in the correct position.

Mind you, I own e-collars. I use e-collars. I have no problem with them. I have an issue with people whom I consider to be sadistic....

He is also "franchising" out his name---excellent marketing man, I will give him that.

And, there are some dogs that his type of training will work with. I understand that.

Negative Reinforcement is an awesome way to train----IF and only IF you have a dog who can handle it.

Again, don't get me wrong---I use pressure in training. I use compulsion in training. But I temper it with food, toy and verbal praise. And I don't usually start "tapping" a dog for sit, until he actually learns what the word means...

Sorry for the vent, I will put my soapbox back in the closet now.
