You might as well forget about the deposit and chalk this up to an "expensive lesson".
Precisely why deposits are not a good idea - especially BEFORE a litter is even on the ground.
I can understand a breeder accepting money when the litter is 5-6 weeks old, but never before. At least at that age, a good breeder has an idea of what's in front of him/her, and can get the homes pegged out properly.
