if he is in a good quality food, there is no real need for pet tabs.
i do add fatty acids to food such as fish oil caps to help with coat.
i also add vitamin c, e and glucosamine to my working/older dogs.

have you checked for fleas?ticks?

apart from those, allergies and dry skin can cause the itchies. allergies can come from anything from food to environment-such as what you use to clean, or bathe him in.
