I suggest using the lead in house for short periods at a time to get him used to the idea and not having to "do his business" on the lead while getting used to being "restricted".
I am proud to say that I got my baby at 4 mths and at 5 mths I trained her sit, down, roll over, "Bang"-play dead, sit pretty, "friend - paw", other paw, high five, double high five... it just blows the docs mind at the vet clinic I work at. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING I adopted her from the pound where she was found as a "stray". To this point I haven't used a clicker however I must admit, she's VERY food motivated, therefore we have trick treats for her and now she not only does tricks for treats. I feared she would "train me" with the treats and tricks, but so far so good.
The only thing I can't get her to do is to STOP MOUTHING - ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH VERY ANNOYING considering I knowhow intelligent she is. Sry, just had to brag a little... it's just unbelievable to me because somebody obviously bought her and "threw her away" but they OBVIOUSLY put time in with her to train her because she was relatively good as soon as we brought her home (knew sit, walked on leash decently).
