It is a faster and more accurate way to "mark" the correct behavior than a verbal cue.

You have to "load" the clicker so your dog understands click = good. Basically you click, then treat until your dog "gets" it. Once she knows click = treat...the rest is history!

Using a clicker I taught Nisha all sorts of things, spin, bow, close cabinets (one I regret ), shake, pick up things, touch, "show your best side" (an all time fav ). Many would not be as easy without the clicker. Example: for "show your best side" we clicked every time she turned her head; eventually she figured out what we wanted. Using a verbal cue can be more confusing; dogs need reassurance the second they do something right; if your cues are off, the learning becomes more difficult. Using a verbal cue teaching "sit" for example you may say "good girl" when she is starting to stand back up; then she thinks the standing up part is correct instead of the actual "sit".

Sorry if this is confusing ! here is a link that may help http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/tra...-training.html

My trainers rottie knows "do you like cats?" then she licks her lips...it is so cute, thats next on our list .
oh wow. you have one smart dog! im definately going to give the "clicker" a try now ;) i would love to see Max do tricks like that in the future. back when Baron was a pup i could never really train him because Rosco the Rottie/Shepard cross i had would kick the crap out out of him, but that was 13 years ago, and i know alot more now than i did then, and i would really like Max to live up to his potential! he is already exibiting signs of being quite smart. thanks for explaining the Clicker method :)
