| Re: Is there any hope for me? When I adopted my long haired boy, Reno, the shelter told me he was fearful of men....well, guess who Reno LOVES now!! Hubby is definitely his favorite person..we don't know what your boy went through before you adopted him, what type of socialization (or lack of socialization), what kind of handling (or lack of handling) he is used to...but it sounds like you're on the right track. And congratulations!!!! BTW, make him work for affection...don't let him demand it...when he comes up to you, ask him for a sit, then when he gives you that, then you can praise/pet him.
I'm also wondering if leashing him to you for a week or two might help (him having to follow you around helps him understand you are in charge)... hopefully someone else will chime in on that. |
