Gotta agree with all the above. If the so called breeder does not give your deposit back, I would file a small claims action. Who knows how many other "deposits" they have taken?
Hopefully you have a contract or promise in writing.
Maybe if these people are forced to give back some deposits they won't be so quick to take them in the first place.
Sorry, but everything you have said leads to someone trying to make a quick buck by throwing a male and several female dogs together.
I would also wonder why three bitches in heat who were bred did not get pregnant? The odds just aren't right.
It all sounds too fishy to me.
