Re: what is the difference between German bred and American bred???

Re: difference between German and American bred? I am glad to see this discussion. I have had a deposit on a "German" puppy for several months now...a good sized deposit. The breeder said she had 3 moms bred, due in late March. I had to email her to check on the puppies and she said nobody had gotten pregnant... and never even notified me.(sounding funny huh?) I questioned her about the deposit and she said she'd send it back but if we wanted a puppy, we'd lose our place in line for first male and maybe not get one at all. Hers are "German" lines; some of their markings are not distinct so I'm wondering if I better back out and start over. She also said that since ALL of her dogs were show quality, that I wouldn't have a choice of puppies. I sent in deposit first, so I got first born male. Does this make any sense to anyone? She did show me "papers" of their ancestors but I'm not educated on this so I was really confused. I visited her kennel and it was very clean and neat and had good facilities for the dogs but somewhere in the back of my mind I'm wondering if this is the right choice. The breeder is "older" (70's) and has been doing this for 30 years but still I wonder....any thoughts?
