It actually is fairly common for pups not to show up on a 30 day ultrasound which is why some have gone to using the blood test to determine pregnancy then x-raying the week the pups are due for a "count".

The pup stud fee could have happened because the litter it came from could have been small such as 1 male, 1 female or the overbite came in later (after she received it) or...or...or...

If the breeder e mailed you, it does not appear that she is trying to "hide" the litter you were expecting a pup from. What did she say when you told her that you would like to go back to the original plan, i.e., a male from the litter you had reserved?
