There's absolutely no reason to be fearful about adopting an adult Rottie from a responsible, bona fide rescue group. Good groups temperament test their dogs and don't take aggressive dogs or biting dogs.
All rescue groups aren't created equal, so you have to do your homework, but working with a rescue group that's on the up and up is definitely a good way to acquire a Rottie.
