I rescued an older female rottie that must have been beaten with a mop or a broom in her youth. She is an amazing, happy, healthy, loving dog, but anytime I pick up a mop or broom and cowers and runs away. I've tried numerous times to just hold it and not pay any attention to her and let her see I'm not gonna hit her with it, but it doesn't work. And unfortunately I've done the wrong thing and when she cowers call her over and try to show her it's ok.
I'm just hoping you guys could throw some input my way regarding the brooms and mops, I tried convincing my boyfriend I should just get a maid so me and Clea can go for walks while she cleans, but he said no :)

(sorry zeus not trying to mess up your thread!)

Talk to the mop, show her its not scary, these dogs are inquisitive, she will soon become curious, when she does, take it slow, talk to the mop and pet her lightly at the same time. Sounds silly but i got this info from a top dog trainer in the Dogs Vic Magazine.
