It definitely makes correcting harder when they don't
but just watch him like a hawk. You might also want to try calming him down before he meets people. If he's not calm, he can't meet them. And tell them to ignore him until he's calm.
Now I know that's really hard to do because everyone loves a rottie puppy
but try to enlist some of your friends to "meet" him. Just threaten them with murder if they pay any attention to the pup when he's excited, that's what I did with Max. I told my friends before they came over that they had to ignore him until he's calm and if they didn't, I'd kick them out of the house. Negative reinforcement works well on humans!
