| Re: New food for a diabetic dog Trust the pet food girl over the Veterinarian. Not sure that is what I would do.
Your girl cannot handle the high energy, easily digestable diet. It causes spikes in her glucose or blood sugar levels that will cause damage to other organ systems. With diabetes she either has a lack of insulin porduction, or she produces enough, but her body has become insensitve to it. What your vet is trying to do with the special diet, which yes has the fiber products in it, is to slow down the digestive process so that her glucose levels do not spike to dangerous levels. In some animals, just like in humans, regulating her diet can eliminate or reduce the need for insulin. While a higher grade food may seem better, in her case I would be wary and talk to the Doctor before changing her diet.
If you were diagnosed with diabetes would you go to your food girl for nutrition information to help regulate your diabetes? I would trust you dogs Doctor.

i'm not a vet, but have had some experiance with diabetes |
