Re: Raw Diet for Puppy?

My thinking in terms of what to feed has evolved.

In 1984 when I got my first Rottie I fed that poor dog SD because I didn't know any better.

When the Internet came along and research got easy, I learned about premium kibble. I fed the likes of Wellness, Canidae, and CA Nat.

My research convinced me that raw was the best way to feed my dogs, but I thought I didn't have the time.

It was my vet who pushed me into feeding raw because our foster failed to thrive on 3 months of Canidae, followed by 3 months on CA Nat. I switched foster boy and our two personal bitches to raw June 27, 2007. I follow the raw prey model. I don't plan to go back to feeding our personal dogs kibble.

Before I switched I talked to raw feeders in my kennel club and anyone I could find who fed raw.

Yahoo! has two discussion groups I found informative--K9Nutrition and rawfeeding.

As far as Websites--there are alot I found with Raw Meaty Bones Raw, Diet, BasicsRaw Fed Dogs,Myths About Raw Feeding, andLearn How Easy It Is To Feed a Raw Diet being particularly helpful.

I buy several hundred dollars' worth of Oma's Pride every 5-6 weeks or so.

We're feeding three adult Rotties.

I don't know anyone feeds big dogs without a freezer. A second fridge is nice, too. My DH is a meat eater, altho he can't stomach 15-20 lbs of frozen duck or turkey or chicken necks defrosting in the kitchen fridge, so the downstairs fridge that we turned on twice a year for big parties is now on all the time.
