Re: Toys - Ideas for making or using common items

When I was building my agility jumps, I opted to recycle used motorcycle tires. It was more cost effective. However, my girls had so much fun slinging the tires as far as they could, then, draping them around their necks and moving like runaway trains... I had to do something.

The real tires, of course, were steel belted. Can't be ruining my dogs teeth. So the motorcycle tires were used for my tire jumps. But... I went out and purchased a segment of flexible, corrugated drain pipe (there went my savings) and made it into a "safer toy tire" for slinging, dragging and wearing as a necklace!

Then I used a couple of the longer segments of 2" PVC pipe, left over from my jump construction. I used the internal style end caps and sealed some pea gravel inside. They make noise, and the weight distribution changes! Loads of fun!

I also have to say I prefer the "oversized tennis balls" to the standard size. I had a GSD who shredded one and had an expensive vet trip to make sure she didn't have a bowel blockage!
