We always leash the young ones around the older dogs. It keeps the pups from molesting the old resident, and it's easier to teach the pup boundaries, as well as allowing the older dog peace.
If the pup is not leashed, it's crated or in an expen in the middle of the household hubbub.
If the older dogs are kenneled, the pup gets free house time.
