What is your rationale for crating one and then the other? Crates are home territory. You may be encouraging antagonism instead of familiarity. A dog will not like nearby encroachment of "his/her space," if you see what I mean.
When we introduced ours, Marty was on the floor with Sable. He stroked her, spoke to her, and light-heartedly told her this was Raven, "isn't she cute?" He kept his attentions on Sable with a ready hand near her collar. Rave was on my lap. Sable took to sniffing curiously, looking back and forth at both of us. "Is this what you want me to do?" Rave allowed her to sniff, then sniffed back.
After that, Rae played on the floor and Sable watched from the couch. Rae then slept in her crate. Sable played outside with us. We'd take Rave out for potty, and took Sable, too. When Sable initiated play, after careful consideration, it was as if she'd adopted the puppy. She took care of her, slept with her, played with her... all the time looking at the two of us poor humans with a smile and a "Why didn't we do this before?" look on her face. Very content with "her" puppy. |
This is some great advise for when we add a puppy to our brood.
SabellesMom I like the way you introduced the 2, and I think that approach would work best with our Clea. Thanks again for the advice also on my other post! |
