You CAN get a sling, or a stirrup to put under them to help them walk, I had one for Chivas and that was 6 years ago, shame on. your vet for not suggeting that. A lot of pet supply stores carry them or you can buy them online. Opps, I reread what you wrote - OK right there isnt something to hold the leg up but there are slings to help the dog walk easier - not too put so much weight on the leg.
