jlaack: You bring up a good point. Today I brought Gary to petsmart for a bath and he was whining in the car a little, and then barked when I parked (pretty sure it was an excited bark, he knows the petsmart parking lot lol) and I told him quiet and realized I didn't have a squirt bottle. He still listened to me though, so I think he is learning that I don't like it when he makes noises like barking and whining.
What other ways do you suggest in teaching your dog just what exactly "quiet" means? As soon as he stops making noise I tell him "good quiet!". Anything else you can do? |
