| Re: Training tonight! Aww thanks everyone for the support! Makes me feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one going through this and really motivates me to keep trying.
My trainer had put vinegar in the bottles mixed with water, but that wasn't helping Gary last week so she told me next week to bring my own bottle and to increase the vinegar/water ratio. That was all the advice I had last week....
This week was so much better! We got to learn about different collars and how to properly use one, and of course Gary was recommended a prong (yay!). The trainer actually used him as the demo dog for this week and he was a nutcase. Jumping all over, way too over stimulated. This got her to mention to the class that if your dog is acting like that to go ahead and tone down the praise. I guess Gary loves praise so much that whenever she said "good!" he got way too excited. So she toned it down, and then the whole class was really impressed with how fast he calmed down and then started walking with her practically in a heel! It only took him 2 corrections to start paying attention to her when she turned and from that point on he didn't pull the other direction when she turned around. It was a proud moment!
I did also bring my more vinegary water bottle and wow what a difference. He actually squints now when I say "quiet" because he is anticipating the squirt - which means it is making a difference in the correction.
I hope every week he continues to do better than the one before, that is all I can ask for! |
