Pretty sure that practice and competition are done in a known, controlled environment. Since we don't hunt and have limited access to environments where dogs are allowed to run around off leash, I seriously doubt that we'll find ourselves near an unknown body of water that Zooey will choose to enthusiastically fling herself into without prompting. Your argument makes sense for your lifestyle however. In the meantime, I'm trying to find activities which make the most of my pup's tendency to fling herself off of objects in a clear attempt to win some kind of one-dog long jump competition.
