She's probably still trying to figure out where she can and can't go. If she's always been taken out front to potty and you have discouraged her from going in the house, she probably isn't sure yet that she is supposed to go in the back. Make sure you have a word associated with going, I use outside, and go out back with her for awhile and stay out there until she goes, and when she does, praise like crazy using the word outside. She will get it, in a short amount of time and then yes, you can leave her out for a bit. And I'm in the camp of it's ok to leave your dog outside by hisself/herself for some time. with that being said, I know my surroundings and feel comfortable doing this. You have to determine your surroundings and wether it's safe for your pup to be out there alone and know what she can/can't get into that could cause her harm. |
