A puppy mill owned and operated by a miller.
If you don't know what this means, Google puppy mills. |
Before posting here I had read the stickies about puppy mills, and BYB's, etc and read articles from google search on puppy mills. Saw what real certificates looked like and started wondering...so pulled Fozzy's "papers" yesterday that I hadn't looked at since we took her in on 10/02/02.
Puppy Mills:
Yeah that's probably why Fozzy switched hands so much. Breeder's DOB 10/23/99; New Owner 12/29/99; Pet Store 01/04/00; Step-son 01/14/00, whom was told by the pet store "this older woman didn't want her because she realized that the dog would be to big for her because of her large paws." WHAT A LIE.
Anyway, rather than searching AKC.org I went a different route. In the past I googled the breeders and always came up blank.
This morning I googled the Kennel name, which initially appeared to be that of the breeders because they are both stated on the Health Record, (all the documents are somewhat confusing) and got a link to MerchantCircle with the Kennel name and a comment/review from a rescuer in Indiana referring to this MO kennel as a puppy miller "disgusting and vile".
I also did a search for the name of the "new owner" before she transferred to the Ohio pet store and found references to this guy being a "broker".

It makes me sad to think that Fozzy was probably one of those waiting her turn for the auction block.

On a positive note, we are very fortunate that Fozzy has never had any health issues. Although, last spring she did blow a cruciate ligament at 7-1/2 years of age (I think this is good to have lasted this long). She has a very good temperament and probably was mothered well, because she mothers are other Rottie. Her only fault is the wavy hair on the back of her neck and the top of her back.
