The two really get along well and I just love spending time with them.....I have so much fun playing and even just sitting and reading with them near....I would not have any other dog.
I do have a question, and if anyone out there gets this to answer, maybe you can help us out.
Luvy has gone into heat about 2 times since Mister Mink has been "trying" to complete his task....We were hoping since he will be 2 May 9th that this last heat he would have accomplished our puppy hope....but not..
What do we need to do to get this accomplished, it isnt like he isnt trying, but seems he just doesnt stay there long enough and I dont believe they have ever "locked"...Anyone have any advice on what to do for the next heat? We want some puppies before Luvy gets too old and possibly just one liter will be fine...
Thank you and I am so happy to join this group. |
Libido is key to survival of any species. If he can't get it up, there's likely a genetic component involved, and therefore, I would recommend not doing the deed. Weakening a breed just for the sake of getting pups is not what a good breeding program is all about. Others are very likely to chime in and let you know what a good breeding program is about, I'll leave it to them and simply answer your question...
As well, sometimes males who are 'reared' by an older female are too submissive with her to her to get the deed done. Again, breeding a dog without sufficient sex drive would be weakening the breed.
In the case of my oldest dog, it was genetic. He is related to Jared. LOL.
