I would crate him; some dogs really freak out when they are tied up. When I groomed, some dogs never felt comfortable being "tied"; they also "released" themselves.

I know it may be hard to tell your grandfather he can't feed your dog. Can you tell him the vet said "no people food"? Then let grandpa join in on the training so he too can reward Turbo for being a good boy. Or let him take Turbo to his crate and give him a bully stick while you all enjoy your dinner.
