He could have Hip Dysplasia. Do a search here for more info on it. He will need x-rays to confirm it. I would keep his activity level to a minimum. Do you crate train him? If so, keep him confined; if he has an injury, moving around a lot will only make it worse.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but go to a vet now.
