| Re: New puppy Great! You left an age span. 4 years should work out great.
I held the puppy. My husband had Sable sittling between his knees. He stoked her and spoke with a happy smile anf a lilt in his voice..."Oh, l-o-o-k, Sabsie! A puppy. Isn't she the cutest thing you ever saw?"
She sniffed the puppy up, down and sideways...smiling and good natured. I put the pup down, and Sable sniffed some more and went to sit on the couch.
For two days Sable mulled things over, intensely interested in the pup's activities. Then she got up, picked up a tug toy, and taught her to play tug! She's been her adopted mom ever since!
These dogs have a great deal of respect for each other. May your journey be as sweet.
I would watch closely for play that could escalate beyond what you wish. We didn't have to, but not all dogs are the same. They may need to be given a guideline of what is acceptable and what is not. Good luck!
