Thumbs down My Rottie had a sezuure

Chance is a 7 year old neutered and blind (from birth) Rottie that we rescued when he was a puppy. His health has been excellent except for ear infections that were taken care of by finding the the right diet. Two days ago while I was asleep he was on the bed and woke me up. At first I thought he was doing that running dreaming thing. But, I quickly saw that he was having convulsions - foaming - spazing and lost his bladder control. I shook him and yelled his name and after 2 or 3 minutes he came to. He was very disoriented -couldn't remember how to get off the bed and for most of the day being very insecure - bumping into things and totally not his real self. Is this common in Rotties? I've decided to wait and see if he has another before we go the Vet. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
