Don't even have to ask: I have given one dog one helluva a left uppercut once. He was an adult, and we were having a difficult time with learned dog aggression. He believed me after that. There is NO room to slap, smack, or punch a SIX MONTH OLD PUPPY.

As I said, I'm a firm believer in corrections.

Respect is one thing to gain, making a dog distrustful of his owner/handler/master is not an intelligent thing to do. Young dogs this age are imprinted VERY easily, and a stern leash correction which is well timed would certainly suffice.

If one gives an adequate correction which is well timed, then there shouldn't really be a need for anything other than gentle reminders afterwards.

Honesty is the best policy. I don't condone nagging, either. I believe in "Say what you mean, mean what you say", as the dog offers me the same courtesy.

The OP in this particular thread needs hands on help. Period. This is why the suggestion of finding a behaviorist/trainer was made. This person is in dire need of understanding the basics of dog body language (or he could stop the dog from lifting leg on him before it happens), both classical and operant conditioning techniques, and I'd venture to say, a LOT of training, otherwise this relationship will stay unequal, and the dog's behavior will intensify.

Suggesting that a novice solve this issue by slapping this young dog into last week is not acceptable. Suggesting to this novice owner the proper avenues to take is.

My 2 cents.
