CKC is a huge red flag to me that you're dealing with a crappy backyard breeder or a puppy mill. The only reason I can think of to register a dog with CKC is because you can't get AKC registration.

That being said, I think the CKC is a brilliant moneymaking scheme. If you'd like registration papers for a dog, please send me $20 via Paypal and I'll register your dog with the Shane Kennel Club and send you a certificate.

I'm not saying that AKC papers necessarily mean much either, but CKC is always a bad sign.

You could get an AKC ILP if you have a purebred unregistered dog. That means you could compete in some AKC events, but not conformation. You also would not be able to use the ILP dog to breed and get AKC papers on the puppy. You cannot use CKC paperwork to get a full AKC registration.
