I agree the long line is the best way, I got lucky with Cash and his recall, I dont have a fenced in yard but he sometimes goes potty without a lead and when he is done I say "come" and he does, but of course they all have their ignore you time
Gypsy has a strong recall but I still worry if she sees something she wants other then to come to me, just keep reading on here and training books and you will be ok, and the classes do wonders!
