Biggest piece of advice--Don't fuss over your dog. He'll be fine.

Our current foster (5 yo +/-) was neutered this past summer. (My vet permits owners to be in operations, if they wish, so I stayed.)

Soon after Sailor came to, I walked him, staggering outside, where he took a pee, then staggered to the car. I helped him into the back seat where he slept all the way home.

When we got home I woke him up and asked him if he wanted to get out of the car. He didn't, so I put the car in the garage and left him there to sleep it off. I checked on him from time to time and after a couple of hours he was awake enough to get out of the car. We took a walk around the yard where he marked, then we went into the house. He went into his crate and back to sleep.

I can't remember if he ate dinner, but I do remember he was as right as rain the next morning and ate breakfast as he always did.

His scrotum swelled up but that eventually subsided. I walked him on a leash to control his running around.

For the first few days he didn't lick his incision, but as it started to heal, he did, so on went the E collar.

Sailor sailed thru his surgery and recovered nicely. I pulled out the stitches.
