Post Re: Hudson's getting them removed - in pairs!

The loose dew claws come off easy...just a snip and a stitch and they are fine...some of the tight ones make it a harder surgery.

If you can take him in on the Friday early morning on an empty stomach...it will probably be easier on him...then he does not have to spend the whole night alone and worry. Once they have the neuter/spay...they sleep the whole night off at the vet clinic...but I always take all of my dogs/fosters in on the morning of the surgery. I think it makes it less traumatic. Often they come in, get a sedative...and have the surgery...sleep...and sleep...and the next morning the vet gives them a quick check-up, checks the surgery site and they are usually released in the a.m. Give him a bit of food and some water...and let him rest the day you bring him home.

Also watch his stomach...some of mine seem to get diarrhea from the anesthetic.

He will be fine...much harder on the owner, then on the dog.
