| Re: 5 months and still not potty trained. Okay everyone here is an update!
Gary went to the vet on monday (I had to go to the walk in clinic because seriously, everywhere I called said they were booked. I even had some friends refer me to their vets and still I couldn't get in, and no where said it was okay for me to just drop off a urine sample and come back later!) and it actually went quite well. Because it was a holiday and early in the morning they weren't busy at all and I got to see a doctor in 20 minutes.
Lab results came back today and everything is normal other than that it was diluted. They did offer for them to have some blood tests done to check for kidney problems, but also said they doubted anything was wrong as his breath has gotten better and they think the itchyness on his back is due to fleas (they said some dogs don't take to advantage well which is what I was using on him) and that I should switch flea medications. I am thinking about having blood work done anyways just incase.
The only real thing I can think of that is causing my trouble with getting Gary to hold his pee in is that his bladder is simply small. The vet did point out while she was palpatating his abdomen that his bladder felt small and that it just needs to catch up to the size of the rest of his body. Today when the vet called me back she said that the results showed that his urine was pretty diluted like he does drink a lot of water, but that it is typical of male rotties that she has seen before that they get excited easily (Gary does for sure) and pant and tend to drink more often. I think that sounds like Gary exactly.
Any other pointers from you guys though?
Here is a reminder of how Gary's accidents in the house look like:
He doesn't actually squat and pee in the house on purpose, he leaks occasionally and will also pee when something cool is happening according to him...like someone will walk by him NOT EVEN LOOKING AT HIM or anything! Weird, but to me sounds like over excitedness. I know with excited urination you are supposed to not look at, touch, or talk to the dog. Well no one does, and he pees simply just at the sight of something fun happening. This morning when I woke up I bent over to say good morning to him, and soon discovered that he had just peed on his bed. |
