| Diesel--Post Mortem First of all, Thank you to all my Rottie friends around the globle for your kind words and thoughts for me. It's been a hard week for me.
Diesel's post mortem exam revealed that he had menegitis. My poor boy. I miss him terribly and have a hard time doing ordinary things, because they bring back memories, like going to the gas station and seeing the "Diesel" pump. Or pulling along side a truck at a stop light and seeing "Diesel fuel only" painted on the side of it. Or walking down the aisle of dog food and seeing food for senior dogs.
I have three other dogs (another Rott and two white German Shepherds), but I still miss my beautiful boy. He was the reason I purchased my second Rott. Diesel showed me that Rottweilers were not all man-eating killers. I purchased my second Rott, Busta, because I knew that I wouldn't have Diesel forever, but losing him still hurts like hell.
Today I was out in the back yard playing football with my other three dogs and the pain of losing him came right back, though Diesel didn't care much for football 'cause the young 'uns would just about knock him off his legs to get the ball.
I won't get another dog for now because my remaining dogs are young, and I am planning on competing in obedience with all three. Some day, though, I will adopt another senior dog. When you look into their soulful eyes and see the wisdom of the ages, when you feel their warm head against your foot as they sleep with perfect confidence that there's someone close by who loves them, how could we not open our hearts and homes to these wonderful seniors? |
