In my part of Canada (east) it is truly HARD to find rottweilers to buy, ANY rottweilers - BYB or not. (for a decent price ofcoarce) I recently got mine from, what is clear to me now, is a BYB. His Bitch had no papers at all (but was looking up to standards, and was examined prior he decided to go on with the repruduction), and the stud was not present but I was assured that he payed for the service of that stud and that he was from a good bloodline. Eager to get my rottie, I didn`t care much....

I must say that It took me 3 months of contineus search to buy or addopt a rott. puppy. I visited douzens of shalters and rescue places in vain. ALOT of pointless phonecalls to paper adds, the puppies seemed to be solled before they were even born! And I`m not exagerating....

The price of a puppy from a BYB starts at 500$ and goes up to 1000$. There are reputable kanels that ask from 1500$ to 6000$ for a puppy! Clearely, too much for an average person who wants a rottie, only to be a part of his family.

What I wanted to tell you guys with all this is that I understand the importance of selective breathing. But most of you don`t seem to understand that most of us (average people) don`t want-can`t afford a show quality puppy, but only a mate to play around with - a household dog. And I`m afraid that BYB will continue to trive in North America until all of you selective breathers with all the perfect dogs decide to drop down your prices so anyone can enjoy a healthy puppy!

I don`t judge me, I`m on your side... just understand in what position the average buyer is put in.
It's too bad that you did not look a little harder or join here...we could have steered you to the right place to find either a well bred Rottweiler or a rescue.
Where about in Canada do you live?...it seems there are no shortages of Rottweilers that need homes...and I was involved in rescue for years.

You can often get a well bred pet/companion Rottweiler puppy from a good breeder here in Canada from about $800. and up...not much more than a BYB pup. All the puppies born from a COE breeder will not be show material, and often the breeder just wants to find a great home for a puppy...or a puppy is returned and a breeder looks for a good place to re-home their puppy.

Sad, that you filled the pockets of a BYB...now that they made money...they will be breeding their dog all over again.

I would suggest you join the Rottweiler Club of Canada or at least go to their website for information.

The little money you spent on your BYB puppy...may be made up for it, in health and temperament problems down the road. Unless the sire and dam of your pup have OVC certifcations or OFA then you do not know about future hip, elbow, heart and eye problems. Any so called "breeder" that allowed his stud to breed with an unpapered, unregistered bitch....is also a BYB...that has no clue of what the standard of the breed is.

Sorry...to come down so hard...but there really is no excuse for buying from a BYB.
